So about a year ago I took the trip of a lifetime to Rwanda. And during that time my 3 year old decided to "decorate" my micro fiber dinning room chairs.
Now just incase you don't own micro-fiber anything let me tell you that you never want to! It's a nightmare to keep clean, yes you can clean it but unless you have the time to clean it daily it will look disgusting! So do not buy it no matter what the sales person says!
Here's what they looked like...
Yes, all 6 of them had blue permanent sharpie marker on the seat. Each and every one!
But being I didn't have to see it first hand and I was super relaxed in another country I didn't totally freak. So I took advantage of the local fabric stands in the market and found a nice, not too loud fabric from Africa to re-upholster them. What a great plan.
Now my only problem was I had know clue what I was doing but how hard is it to staple some fabric onto a squarish chair? A screw gun made quick work of removing the seats, then to roughly cut the fabric, staple it on pulling it tight on all sides was all it too. The most difficult thing was to actually figure out how much fabric I needed. Just measure the seat adding 2" for each side to staple. Well a hundred staples later and a few long hours here is what I ended up with...
So needless to say I'm a happy girl. They look so much better and it was so worth it. I would've rather left them be with just fabric (it's a neater, more finished look) but aware I have a 2 and 4 year old with another on the way I took it a step farther and covered them all with a thin plastic cover which I also stapled over the fabric. Voila! Wipeable, super clean chairs. Now I can have company :)
Now do I cover the couches and all the other furniture with plastic too? That may be a bit much!
But I definitely am not scared to take a double look at anything that needs recovered. Spring garage sales beware!
I love saving $$$$$ and re-purposing things. Wins all around.
